This symbol has proved to be extremely useful in geographic map legends, IQ assessment tests, clothing labeling, and textual graphics.
What comes to geographic maps, it is usually applied there to represent deposits of valuable minerals such as clay and ceramsite clays.
This symbol consists of 5 bars and it is very popular in IQ tests. It can often be put next to the symbols with different numbers of bars or a plain square.
You may come across such a square in clothing too; it's usually located inside some cloth items, on the labels. There it visually resembles a square with vertical fill, but it has three vertical stripes. This symbol indicates that the garment requires vertical drying.
Another use of this symbol is found in textual graphics. A square with vertical fill is used to style posts and texts on websites and social media.
